>Beautiful People

>I feel like I am doing exactly what God wants me to do. I also feel that I didn’t really have a good picture of what this would look like.  It’s not that I didn’t have a good vision of Ice Cream and Answers, making lots of friends, hanging with non-church types every day and helping people with good advice.  That part was crystal clear and is exactly what is happening. The part I missed was the faces, conversation and lives of the people.  The people are different.  Not different scary, or different bad, just different.  We aren’t connecting with church people who know church language or church behavior.  In fact, we are hanging out with people who are not interested in attending church right now at all.  So, we hang out at Ice Cream and Answers and talk about everything under the sun.   They tell me their stories and their ideas and thoughts and attitudes and beliefs.  As you can figure, much of their basic beliefs are not based on the truth of the Word of God.  Their decisions are made based on the information they’ve gleaned from people and the media and their own impulses.  So, there is drama and issues and pain, lot’s of pain.  Their lives are messy, and I’m glad they don’t feel they need to clean up before they hang out with me.  I’m glad they invite me in to their lives and let me live it with them, and then they let me help a little.  I know that Jesus really can help them, that He really is the Answer, and that there is Hope.  Often, I get to talk about Jesus with these people who are uninterested in attending church with me, but they are fine with talking about Jesus when they bring Him up in the conversation.  I’m convinced that people outside the church have no incentinve to attend our worship gatherings and therefore, do not.  But they are looking for Who we know.  They might not know that they are looking for Jesus, right now they are just looking for Help or Answers, but, in our conversations we find the topic turning to the One Who can help and the One Who can answer.  I thank God for this opportunity to engage the world like the Apostle Paul; making tents and preaching the Good News that you can be forgiven and in a great relationship with God through Jesus Christ, Who died for our sins, was buried and on the third day, rose again.

>A Really Cool Story

>Today a young girl came by Ice Cream and Answers.  I haven’t seen her since January and she has changed a little.  In January, she dressed very dark and “goth” like.  Plus she was pregnant.  We had been speaking about her life for about a month and I was encouraging her.  Life was not easy.  Today, she was all smiles with her new baby boy.  She also brought her “babydaddy” with her today. I was particularly surprised to see that her “babydaddy” was a young man I’ve also been talking to for several months about his girlfriend being pregnant.  I never considered that some of the people I talk to could be connected.  So they are doing the best two 16 year olds and a baby can.  She is living in a foster home, he is still at home with his parents (I believe I’ve even consulted with his mother), they both intend to go to school this year (their Junior year) and he has a job.  It seems they both are taking my advice and she has read the on line “How to Raise Great Children” seminar.  I’m particularly excited about this today.
